Pooppy — Privacy Policy

Pooppy is a dog-health diary: you log your dog's poops, pees, meals and walks, and the app shows patterns and predictions. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes. The short version: your data exists so the app can work for you — we don't sell it, we don't run ads, and we don't share it with anyone beyond the infrastructure that stores it. The one exception is anonymous product facts from scanned food labels, which feed a shared catalog — see Community food database below.

What we collect and why

Account details — your email address and sign-in method (email & password, Google, or Apple). Used only to identify your account and sync your data across your devices.
Dog profiles and health logs — dog names, breed, birth date, weight, and the entries you log (bathroom events, meals with optional nutrition details, notes). This is the app's core content, stored so it syncs and isn't lost with your phone.
Walk and run data — when you record a walk or a run, the GPS route, distance, duration, and an estimated calories value are saved with it; runs add pace, splits, pauses, elevation and — from your phone's motion sensors — cadence. Location is accessed only while a walk or run is being recorded or when you attach a location to an entry, never in the background otherwise. If you turn on running, the starting location of a run is sent to Apple's WeatherKit to fetch the temperature and humidity, which are saved with the run for heat guidance; no other weather lookups happen.
Dog photos — synced to secure cloud storage (Google Firebase) so everyone in your household sees them; only signed-in members of that household can access them.

Apple Health

With your permission, Pooppy saves your dog walks and runs to Apple Health as workouts, and reads your body weight and biological sex solely to make calorie estimates more accurate. If you turn on running, Pooppy also reads heart-rate samples from Apple Health for the time window of each run — whatever device wrote them, such as an Apple Watch or another fitness app — to show your average and maximum heart rate with that run. Raw Health data never leaves your device and is never uploaded to our servers. The calorie estimate is stored with the log, which means it syncs with that walk or run like the rest of its details; your heart-rate and cadence numbers stay on your device unless you explicitly turn on sharing them with your household in Settings. The Pooppy app for Apple Watch records runs the same way and saves them to Health on the watch.

Where data is stored

Synced data (account, dogs, logs, walks, photos) is stored in Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Storage for the photos), which acts as our infrastructure provider and processes data on our behalf. Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).

Beta programme

If you sign up for the beta on pooppy.health, we store the name and email address you enter, the page language, and a timestamp in Cloud Firestore, and use them solely to contact you about the Pooppy beta. They're never used for anything else, never shared, and you can ask us to delete your details at any time.

Website analytics

pooppy.health uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and languages people use — but only if you accept it in the cookie bar. Until then the Google tag isn't even loaded, and if you decline it never is. If you accept, Google sets cookies in your browser and receives your IP address (which it truncates) along with basic device and browser details. We only ever see aggregate numbers — never who you are — and nothing from analytics is linked to a beta signup or an app account. Google's processing is governed by its own privacy policy. Your choice is remembered for 12 months and you can change it at any time in the cookie settings. This applies to the website; the app's data handling is described above.

Shared households

If you invite someone into your Pooppy household (or join theirs), everyone in that household sees and manages the same dogs and logs: dog profiles, bathroom entries, meals, walks (including walk routes), and who logged each of them, along with each member's display name. Photos are shared like the rest of the log — a photo you attach to a dog or an entry is stored in your household's private area of our cloud storage, so the other members see it in the app too. Leaving a household (or deleting your account while others remain in it) removes your access and your membership, but the dogs and history you contributed stay with the household. If you are the last member, deleting your account deletes the household's data with it.

Community food database

When you apply a scanned nutrition label in the app, the product facts you reviewed — the food's name, brand, nutrition values, ingredients list, and barcode when present — are added to a shared food database that other Pooppy users can search, so they can pick the same food without scanning it themselves. These entries contain nothing about you or your dog: no account identifier, no dog data, no portions, no notes, and no dates travel with them. They are anonymous product facts, redistributed to other users as part of the app. Manually typed foods are never shared. If you believe an entry is wrong or shouldn't be there, use the in-app report option or email the address below and we'll correct or remove it.

Diagnostics & feedback

If the app crashes, an anonymous crash report (stack trace, device model, OS version, and which screen was open) is sent to Firebase Crashlytics so we can find and fix the bug. Crash reports are not linked to your account and are never used for tracking or advertising. If you use the in-app Send Feedback form, your message is stored together with the app version, iOS version, and language — and nothing that identifies you.

Other services

When you pick a breed, the app fetches a public list of dog breeds from dogapi.dog. Nothing about you or your dogs is sent with that request — but as with any web request, that service can see your device's IP address.

What we don't do

No advertising and no advertising SDKs.
No sale or sharing of your data with third parties.
No tracking across other apps or websites.

Notifications

Reminder notifications (for example, predicted bathroom windows) are generated on your device. You can turn them off anytime in the app's Profile or in iOS Settings.

Your data, your call

You can delete individual dogs, entries or walks in the app at any time. To delete your entire account and everything synced with it, open Profile → Delete Account in the app: it removes your account and all synced data; photos are removed from this device, and when you are the household's last member, from our servers as well. Children

Pooppy is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
